I am Priscilla Selene, a dedicated and compassionate mental health professional with a degree in psychology and counseling. I hold certifications in hypnotherapy and HypnoBreathwork®, and I am currently working towards becoming a certified Integrative Medicine Health Coach. My diverse career has included roles as a child and family therapist, in-home therapist, mobile acute crisis responder, crisis clinician in a psychiatric facility, and work within an adult detention center.
These experiences have equipped me with a broad skill set and a holistic approach to mental health and wellness. I am passionate about supporting individuals on their journey to personal growth and emotional balance. At Whole-Person Wellness, we focus on the whole person, integrating various therapeutic modalities to address the unique needs of each client.

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind which lies between awake and asleep. In fact, the average person experiences hypnosis at least twice a day, when waking up from normal sleep, and when falling asleep. You can achieve this state by self-hypnosis or by going to a hypnotherapist. How this works is that the hypnotherapist guides you into a deep state of focus and relaxation using verbal cues, repetition and guided imagery. So what this does is that it allows your conscious mind, which is responsible for analyzing our internal and external environment and makes decisions about it to become less active so you can access the subconscious mind, that part of your brain where your thoughts, beliefs, perceptions, sensations, emotions, memory and behaviors originate. While in this hypnotic state, the subconscious mind is more open to experience suggestions to help you modify or replace the unconscious thoughts that are driving your current behavior.
Some of the greatest benefits of hypnotherapy is that you can reprogram yourself because hypnosis treats many behavioral, emotional, physical, and spiritual issues, such as the following:
Hypnosis is an individual experience, but many describe it as being pleasant. Tell me, have you ever been so absorbed in a good book or so focused on a TV show that you don’t hear your family talking around you? That is very similar to how many report feeling during hypnosis. They describe it as a calm and relaxed feeling despite their increased concentration. In hypnosis, you are in an altered state of consciousness, or awareness, so you are able to think and hear what the therapist is saying to you.
Even though hypnosis comes from the Greek word meaning “sleep”, you are fully awake and aware, so you are able to talk and move around. A person who has been in a relaxed state may sometimes experience a feeling of time distortion. They may feel like only ten minutes have passed, but they may in fact have been in a relaxed state for thirty minutes. Some patients may experience rapid eyelid movement.
The number of sessions required will depend on the individual and the challenges being addressed. Sessions can take anywhere from 1-6 sessions. The more issues or habits being changed, the more sessions may be needed. It is best to focus one issue at a time. There is usually a break of one to four weeks between two sessions.

The frequency and number of HypnoBreathwork® sessions needed can vary depending on individual goals and needs. Initially, it is often recommended to have weekly sessions to build momentum and establish a strong foundation. As progress is made, sessions can be spaced out to bi-weekly or monthly intervals. Many clients find significant benefits after 6 to 10 sessions, but ongoing sessions can be beneficial for continued personal growth and maintenance. Your practitioner will work with you to develop a customized plan that best suits your unique journey and objectives.
